Would you like to learn how to add the wow factor to your clothing with embroidery and embellishments, as well as repairing worn clothes and accessories with decorative stitching? In this creative workshop we will transform dull or worn clothing into something beautiful and unique to you.
In this workshop you will learn how to embroider items of clothing, including woollens and accessories, such as bags or scarfs. If the item can be submersed in water and of a thickness to pass a needle through. then your item will be suitable for transforming into something beautiful to extend its use and lifespan. It is recommended that you bring as many items as you can find so that we can discuss the most suitable for transforming.
This workshop is suitable for beginners as it involves a few simple stitches, and Victoria will guide you through the steps. It is also suitable for advanced stitchers, as there is opportunity to be creative with your stitching.
All materials apart from the item of clothing will be provided. There will be a selection of pure wool threads from Victoria’s collection of wool threads, as well as stranded cotton threads if your clothing would suit that better. There will also be beads available to use as decoration to give your item that something special.
Bring your own item of clothing, that could include wool jumpers, gloves, scarfs, socks, or even jeans or a denim jacket. It can be anything but it has to be washable. Natural fibres such as cotton and wool work very well. If you don't have an item of clothing to bring, then there will be felt pieces available, so that you can affix it to an item later on.
Victoria will guide you through basic stitches that will add decoration to your chosen item. There will be a choice of designs, and the most appropriate method of transferring the design to your chosen item will be demonstrated. Sketching your own design is very much encouraged, but there will be plenty of Victoria’s drawings to choose for tracing.
The materials included for you to embroider in the session, and to take away with you:
- Soluble fleece.
- Pure wool threads, stranded cotton embroidery threads, crewel wool, beads.
- John James embroidery needles.
All other materials that you will need will be for use within the class, and there will be plenty of threads for you to take home to finish the project.
