Join printmaker Hester Cox for an insight into this exciting and diverse printmaking method. Collagraph is all about rich textures and mark-making, often using readily available or ‘found’ materials. It can range from the sculptural to the very finely detailed.

In the morning, Hester will demonstrate some simple and effective techniques for making collagraph plates using card, textured papers, and pastes. She will then give one-to-one guidance helping participants to develop their own designs. The printing plates will be sealed over lunch and printed in the afternoon using Hester’s portable etching press.

This class is suitable for complete beginners or artists wanting an introduction to a new technique. Materials and a handout are included. Please come dressed in old clothes and bring an apron, photos or sketches for personal inspiration, a notebook and pen for taking notes and any extra collage materials that you would like to try.

Hester Cox is a professional artist who has specialised in collagraph printmaking since she graduated from Harrow School of Art & Design 26 years ago. She exhibits her prints throughout the UK and internationally. Hester will exhibit in Great Print 7 in Rheged’s Gallery from 4 December – 27 February.
