You will develop some different watercolour portrait painting techniques that will build your confidence and help you complete one or more watercolour portrait in a day. Photographs and photocopies will be used as source material for the portraits eliminating a lot of the time usually taken to draw out before painting.

Catherine MacDiarmid has exhibited widely including the Mall Galleries and was a semi-finalist in the Sky Portrait Artists of the Year 2019. Catherine has 28 years’ experience teaching art courses.

Please bring with you:


*Watercolour paper (NOT or Rough surface is recommended)- a few sheets.
*Watercolour Paints
*Watercolour brushes – at least one round brush No.8, 10 or 12 in size (other brushes optional)
*Water pots.
*Kitchen roll.
*Palette or plate for mixing colours on.
*A4 Images of a portrait that you want to paint on printing paper.  This can be a quick print but you must also have the image in colour form (print or digital).
*Trace down or tracing paper optional and if images are a good size to trace.

We have a Design shop at Rheged in case you are missing any materials.
