A place to meet
Rheged is a gallery, café, cinema, shopping venue, workplace and creative space on the edge of the Northern Lakes. A place where friends, family and colleagues can share a meal, watch a film, hold a meeting, see an exhibition, buy a gift or catch up over coffee. A flexible space for getting together or enjoying time alone with a book or notepad; a place where stories are told, ideas are sparked and the Cumbrian landscape is a constant source of inspiration.
Our modern, independent gallery hosts a dynamic programme of events, bringing together established and emerging artists in curated and touring exhibitions. Inspired by the landscape and heritage on our doorstep, we look beyond the Lake District to celebrate British art and craft in all its diversity.
With its 60-foot giant screen and digital sound, our independent cinema offers an immersive experience unique in our region. A varied programme includes new releases, family favourites and live-streaming events to transport you into the world’s great theatres and opera houses.

Curated with our place in mind but inspired by craft, design and talent from far and wide, our range encompasses niche British makers, ethical brands and items you’re unlikely to find elsewhere. Shop just for the fun of it: we think you’ll be delighted.
At the heart of Rheged, our new 100-seat cafe is a relaxed, light-flooded space with a pizza oven and juice bar. The inclusive all-day and evening menu showcases exceptional handmade foods and craft drinks from our region and beyond, including organic wines, real bread and locally roasted speciality coffee.
How we’re keeping you safe
Our colleagues carry out frequent cleaning of all public areas. Cinema and Indoor Play are thoroughly sanitised after every film/play session. Hand sanitiser is provided throughout Rheged. Please observe social distancing and wear a face covering indoors unless seated in the Cafe. We kindly request that all customers aged 16 and over check in using the NHS Covid-19 app upon entering Rheged.
