Spend an evening with polar explorer Nick Cox, who will share his remarkable and amusing stories from working in polar regions for almost 50 years. Aged six, Nick's parents gave him a book; The Puffin Book of Polar Exploration, which he still has at home and which inspired a truly extraordinary life. Nick joined the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) in 1975, spending three winters and many summers on their bases and in the field. He was a boatman, carpenter, dog driver and spent months in the field guiding scientists while living in tents and travelling on skidoos. He was a base commander in both the Arctic and Antarctic for thirty-five years. He was awarded two Polar Medals (1992 and 2017) and appointed an MBE in 2006.

Join us for what promises to be a fascinating evening, with ticket sales in aid of the Friends of the Calvert Trust. We’re proud to support the Lake District Calvert Trust, who provide the UK’s most comprehensive programme of outdoor activities and rehabilitation for people with any disability. Each year, thousands of individuals, groups and families experience together the thrill and adventure of the Lakes.

Your ticket will include a glass of fizz or a soft drink and we would like to welcome you a drinks reception at 7pm, with Nick's talk starting at 7.30pm. His talk will last 1 hour, and be followed by a Q&A for around 30 minutes
