The workshop covers:
 

• choosing an appropriate pattern and fabric
• taking measurements and selecting the correct size
• reading and understanding a sewing pattern
• cutting out or tracing a pattern
• adding pockets (using an additional pocket pattern I provide)
• garment construction, including overlocking
• inserting elastic
• buttonholes
• adding a drawstring
• troubleshooting and developing confidence with the sewing machine

Beginners can make a straightforward pair of pyjama pants, while those more experienced can experiment with pattern adaptations and hacks.

The “Jaimie Pyjama Pant pattern by Tilly and the Buttons" will be provided alongside some scrap fabric for the pockets plus elastic for the waistband.

You will just need to provide approximately 2.5m of medium-weight woven fabric (or 1.2 m should you prefer to make pyjama shorts) – cotton, linen, flannel or similar, roughly the weight of good-quality bed linen and matching thread.  This workshop lends itself particularly well to sustainability and upcycling so please feel free to bring pre-loved sheets and duvet covers which also make excellent pyjama fabric.

Class members are encouraged to bring own sewing machines however we have a stock of 5 available.  These must be reserved on booking so please email enquiries@rheged.com should you wish to reserve one
