In this half day workshop we will be creating some beautiful mosaics for indoor display, on the theme of birds.

The aim of the session is for you to explore the various stages of making mosaics using the direct technique. There will be a choice of projects with a huge variety of materials too. You will be able to make several pieces with everything provided. 

We will be mainly using hand cutting techniques so hand and wrist strength are important, if you think you might struggle please let me know as there are other ways we can work.

It will be a really relaxed session where you will feel free to experiment and try this wonderful medium – we will discuss the processes and materials as we go, and everyone will work at their own pace and be encouraged to create unique individual pieces. 

You will gain an understanding of techniques that you can use at home to carry on with your mosaic making journey. As this is a half day workshop, the focus will be on designing cutting and fixing our mosaics, you will be given a demonstration of how to grout your mosaic and a full set of materials to grout your pieces at home.

Participants don’t need to bring anything at all but please wear closed shoes (no sandals). 

Aprons and goggles will be provided.  £20 for materials to be paid to Helen directly on the day

Helen Clues is a mosaic artist living and working in Cumbria. Her mosaic work is decorative and functional, using traditional, recycled and found materials. She has over 20 years experience facilitating and running workshops encouraging others to explore their own creative potential.
